This may sound dumb, so please be nice, in one of the answers they said as long as its not unpasterised (sp?) eggs, are eggs EVER really pasterised, wouldnt the heat cook it, I thought eggs went from the nest to the carton, am I wrong?

I've heard of that a zillion times, but I likewise have eaten raw cookie dough more times than I could count (especially as a kid), and NEVER been sick. Nor have I ever actually MET anybody who's gotten sick that way. As to Subway or similar sandwiches - I just about lived off Schlotzsky's sandwiches when I was expecting, and my son turned out perfectly ok! I did get a stomach bug during the pregnancy, but that was because my HUSBAND had it 24 hours earlier!

I have never heard that pregnant woman aren't supposed to eat sub meat or lunch meat. I wouldn't eat the raw cookie dough though because of the raw eggs. If you absolutely have to have some then just a bit when you first make it so it's still fresh.

im pregnant too and crave ALOT of cookie dough im not so sure about that raw eggs making you sick eather so i just buy ben & jerrys cookie dough icecream....im guessing that if they are making cookie dough icecream it has to be ok and not harmfull for them to sell it....lol!! goodluck!! and congrats!!

Unless you're using unpasteurized eggs, there's no real danger in eating raw cookie dough. Pregnant or not.

To answer your follow-up question: Eggs, in this country, are always pasteurized (as opposed to, say, France, where they are not only unpasteurized, but not refrigerated). The eggs are pasteurized by heating them in warm water. The temperature of the yolk must be controlled between 128 and 138.5 °F. At lower temperatures, the egg is not pasteurized, and at higher temperatures, the albumen (egg white) loses its functionality. Each egg is weighed and directed to a series of warm water baths. The combination of time and water temperature heats the eggs enough to kill Salmonella without cooking the egg. The entire process takes about an hour.

Even with UNpasteurized eggs, there is still only a small chance of catching salomanella. You're more likely to get it from undercooked/improperly prepared chicken than from an egg.

I never got sick from eatting anything when I was pregnant, I had the weirdest cravings and it never happened. I was pregnant in the 70's when all this food talk wasnt around so...eat away my dear!

Raw eggs=samonila
If you really crave cookie dough that much get cookie dough icecream or heat up the cookie dough a llittle so you don't get sick. THAT COULD HARM YOU AND THE BABY! So be careful.

nope, never. i eat it all the time too. i loove homemade chocolate chip cookie dough.
