Why does whole milk cost more?!

Question:

Why does whole milk cost more?

We are doing a newspaper activity in school, and the question came up, who does whole milk cost more... can you help me and my class understand this?!

Answers:
when raw milk stands for a period of time, the cream(milkfat)rises to the top. the liquid in the bottom is considered skim milk, and different dairy products are made by adding different percentages of milkfat to the skim product.left over cream is made into cheese and butter. the fat is the most desirable part of the milk, the rest is basically excess water in the cows diet.you are paying for the amount of milkfat in the product whether it be;
heavy cream=36%fat
half&half=17%
whole milk=4%
2%=2%(lol)
and skim is 1%
next time you are in the dairy aisle you will see that these products prices fall in order from highest to lowest as they are listed.

Well because more fat is in it!!!!

Yes it is called marketing
People who have food stamps or other government vouchers
buy steak and whole milk to get fat on
While you and I can only afford burger and the other stuff.

There is more fat in it, and it is healthier

because they lose money by letting you have the nutrients and fat you recieve from whole milk because they could have used it to make sour cream or half and half or other milk products. Its a matter of money they could have gotten out of your whole milk, so to turn an equal profit they up the price of whole milk.

Because it has more milk, 2% is 2% milk. 1% is 1% milk....

You seem to have quite a few answers, but, it may also have something to do with demand. There is more demand on the market for 1% and skim now, than whole.

The person who said 1% milk has only 1% milk in it is a total moron. whole milk costs more because they can't sell the cream, which is the most expensive part of the milk.
