Substitute for Spiced Rum in a recipe?!

Question:

Substitute for Spiced Rum in a recipe?

I don't like to buy drinking alcohol, but I'll buy cooking wines, etc (I know chefs say it's not best). Which flavor of cooking wine could be best substituted for the rum? White, marsala?

Answers:
I would not substite a cooking wine for rum- depending on what you are making or baking, rum flavoring is really common in most parts of the states, where the vanilla is in the grocery store. Use that mixed with water, and add appropriate spice- allspice, cinnamon, nutmeg, depending on the recipe!

Try the ordinary Chinese cooking wine.
