When I add vinegar to sushi rice, do I have to cook it first?!

Question:

When I add vinegar to sushi rice, do I have to cook it first?

What are some toppings I could use? (excluding fruit, raw fish, meat, garlic, onions, and scallions)

Answers:
Cook the rice first and make sure that you are using "Marin" which is a rice wine vinegar and gives it that nice flavor you like. Also look for the spice that has the nice seeds and seaweed and things.

no you can just mix it in with the rice. Also you can basically put anything you want into a sushi roll. Just give everythign a shot!

Don't cook the vinegar, just make sure the Rice is cooked plus a little sugar added to make it more sticky.

Add any filling you want - Sushi is truly international now. I've made it will tuna, crushed pineapple, capsicum and avocado with a smear of wasabi. As sides the soy sauce with more wasabi mixed and pickeled ginger, as usual . MMMM YUMMY!

If you are making your own flavored sushi vinegar, then you do need to cook it enough to dissolve the sugar. They do sell rice vinegar especially for sushi- but if you can't find it, you can easily make your own.

Sushi Rice and Sushi Ideas
Ingredients:
3 cups Japanese-style rice
3 1/4 cups water

Sushi vinegar- pre flavored, or make your own:
1/3 cup rice wine vinegar
3 tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt

Preperation:
After washing the rice well, cook it by pan or rice cooker. Use prepared, or prepare sushi vinegar (sushi-zu) by mixing rice vinegar, sugar, and salt in a small pan.

Put the pan on low heat and heat until the sugar dissolves. Cool the vinegar mixture.

Spread the hot steamed rice into a large plate Sprinkle the vinegar mixture over the rice and "flip" the rice very quickly with a large wooden spatula or spoon- don't mash it!

Ideas: ( ok, avocado really is a fruit, but a great sushi one)
Smoked Salmon and Avocado
Salon skin and avocado
avocado and cucmber
tuna salad ( make rolls) with or without cucumber
spinach and oyster mushrooms
eel
shrimp
shrimp and avocado
fried ( tempura) shrimp
masago
scallop salad
spam ( yes, spam- soak it in soy sauce first)
My favorite is the spider roll- tempura fried soft shell crab
