Cannibis is not a gateway drug . The only reason it would be considered one is because in order to buy it you have to step over the tracks and deal with the criminal world thus the gateway is not to other drugs but to other criminal activity.
Alcohol on the the other hand is the only commonly available drug - legal or otherwise - that will kill you if you ingest a ten dollar portion of . Cannibis is illegal , alcohol is legal .Go figure
