Hash browns?!

Question:

Hash browns?

There are 2 types of hash browns...Theres one where it looks like shredded cheese( http://www.komar.org/bbq/bbq_grill_recip... )
and hash browns that are from McDonalds and stuff ( http://www.liketocook.com/50226711/hashb... )
Are their different names for them? And, which one do you prefer better? I only tried the "shredded cheese" hash browns once and I thought they tasted kinda weird, and greasy.

Answers:
What you get from McDonald's are patty hashbrowns. More akin to a tater tot, in my opinion.

I love, love, love hashbrowns, the shredded ones when we eat breakfast out. I have trouble making them perfectly at home, crispy out, tender in. The hashbrowns I make at home are more like a very small diced potato.

one is processed and the other is shredded straight off the potatoes.

Well I like the shredded ones, if they taste greasy it is cause they were cooked with to much oil. If you are going to cook them yourself try using Pam on your pan first and just a small amount of oil. Put a lid over them and let them cook slowly.

The ones that are formed I don't care for as you need to deep fry them for them to taste right.

My hash browns are made from leftover baked potato's.that have been carefully refrigerated the night before,I simply cut them in cubes and fry YES in butter with a little onions and Ya that's Hash browns. If I want to get fancy I add sausage,bacon,peppers,cheese,s... cream, the list is endless. We call it good. You can call it what ever you want .When my boyfriend makes it it's MATT'S FATTY!!!!!
