Question:

Answers:
you can cook any type of cake in microwave even packet mixes just add extra oil. butter and reduce the amount of milk water etc i cook mine on high for about 6 mins if its still not cooked enough in center add another minute round baking containers best not metal

I don't think it would rise.

sure you can..........look here...........http://allrecipes.com/recipe/microwave-c...

You can, but you have to use recipes specifically designed for the microwave, in other words, you cant just stick any cake in there and expect it to work, so try this:

MICROWAVE CHOCOLATE CAKE

1/4 c. Hershey's cocoa
2/3 c. hot water, divided
3/4 c. plus 2 tbsp. all-purpose flour
1 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 c. plus 2 tbsp. vegetable oil
1 egg
2 tsp. vanilla extract
Easy Cocoa Frosting

Grease round micro-proof baking dish, 7 1/4 x 2 1/4 inches or 8 x 1 1/2 inches; line bottom with plastic wrap. In small micro-proof bowl, combine cocoa and 1/3 cup water; microwave on high (full power) 40 to 50 seconds or until very hot and slightly thickened.
In medium bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Add oil, remaining 1/3 cup hot water, egg, vanilla and chocolate mixture; beat until batter is smooth and well blended.

Pour batter into prepared pan. Microwave on high 5 to 6 minutes without turning until cake begins to pull away from sides (some moist spots may remain but will disappear on standing). Let stand 5 minutes; invert onto serving plate. Peel off plastic wrap; cool. Frost. About 8 servings.

Time is for 600-700 watt microwave ovens.

Yes you can.

It wont be the same but you can do it. But to use the microwave you need to make some changes and trial and error. Some books and sites have microwave oven cake recipes.

Other food companies also sale cake mix for microwave oven.

I have only ever baked one cake in the microwave, umm, is it still baking if you microwave it?

Microwave Carrot Cake

Ingredients:

225 g/8 oz/1 cup caster (superfine) sugar
2 eggs
120 ml/4 fl oz oil
1.5 ml salt
5 ml/1 tsp bicarbonate of soda (baking soda)
100 g/4 oz/1 cup self-raising (self-rising) flour
5 ml/1 tsp ground cinnamon
175 g/6 oz carrots, grated
75 g/3 oz walnuts, chopped
225 g/8 oz crushed pineapple with its juice

For the icing :

15 g/1 tbsp butter or margarine
50 g/2 oz cream cheese
10 ml/2 tsp lemon juice
Icing (confectioners') sugar, sifted

Method:

Line a large ring mould (tube pan) with baking parchment.
Cream together the sugar, eggs and oil.
Gently stir in the dry ingredients until well combined.
Stir in the remaining cake ingredients.
Pour the mixture into the prepared mould, stand it on a rack or upturned plate and microwave on High for 13 minutes or until just set.
Leave to stand for 5 minutes, then turn out on to a rack to cool.

To make the icing.
Put the butter or margarine, cream cheese and lemon juice in a bowl and microwave on High for 30-40 seconds.
Gradually beat in enough icing sugar to make a thick consistency and beat until fluffy.
When the cake is cold, spread over the icing.

This cake is devine, but i love carrot cake and usually add more carrot than the recipe asks for :)
