I'm having trouble with my ice cubes sticking in the tray...?!

Question:

I'm having trouble with my ice cubes sticking in the tray...?

Any suggestions? If it matters, I am dealing with hard water, very mineral-y, and buying ice, purified water, or an ice maker, is not going to happen.

The problem is that my ice shatters and sticks in the tray. I have even cracked a couple trays. I have found this happens more when I freeze on top of ice shards that stuck in the bottom, so I have started with room temperature trays of water. Aside from that, I have no ideas.

My trays are a mishmash collection, a couple old ones that came with a refrigerator, and a few from different dollar stores. Do ice trays have a lifespan? Do they develop a residue that makes them not work anymore?

Answers:
If cubes are sticking simply run water over the back of the tray and they pop right out.

leave them in the freezer longer or try the above which is guaranteed to work

Spray your trays with PAM cooking spray and the cubes will pop right out.You wont even know the pam is on the cubes

WOW, i didnt know there were options, i usually just smash the try and out it pops.

have you tried bending the tray for the ice to pop out, thats what my grandma does but sometimes it doesnt come out because its wayy to frozen so my grandma put it under cold water and it defrezzes it.
hope that helped :)
