Whatever recipe you decide to use, add a cream cheese frosting made from Philedelphia cream cheese, some butter and some icing sugar mixture. You can make this too suit your own taste. Not too much butter, though. Spread on top when cake is cool and cover in crushed walnuts. YUM !

Hiya,

Maybe you could try these substitutes?

Shortening = Vegetable Shortening

Substitutes:

Butter (1 cup shortening = 1 cup + 2 tablespoons butter; butter is better tasting than shortening but more expensive and has cholesterol and a higher level of saturated fat; makes cookies less crunchy, bread crusts more crispy)

Margarine (1 cup shortening = 1 cup + 2 tablespoons margarine; margarine is better tasting than shortening, but more expensive; makes cookies less crunchy, bread crusts tougher)

Lard (1 C shortening = 1 C - 2 tablespoons lard; lard has cholesterol and a higher level of saturated fat)

Hope this helps
