FISH- tilapia

There's a bit of a muddle threatening here: though the Tilapia (Oreochromus -- var. sub species, e.g. O. niloticus) is often used as a (farmed, cheaper) substitute in the kitchen for Red Snapper (Lutjanus campechanus), they're are not synonymous with one another, but distinct and separate species.

Tilapia's name in almost any language tends to remain 'tilapia', but there are a few local 'nicknames', for instance 'mudfish' & 'kurper' (S.Africa), 'Ngege' (O. esculentus -- Lake Victoria), 'Nile perch' (Egypt), 'sun fish' (Hawaii), and more generic ones (not often found on menus ) like 'mouthbreeder'.

That is what it is called in the US.
