For as long as I can remember, the answer has been 8 glasses a day, with coffee, tea, etc. not counting. However, I read an article about a year ago which said that answer was essentially made up early in the 20th century, with no real basis. It is clear that beverages, like coffee and tea, do count in water intake, and it's clear that lots of folks do fine with less, and more, than 8 glasses a day.

About one to one and a half litres of pure water a day but you can also make up your fluid in take with juices and milk. Coffee and tea are both dehyrdrating as are those sports drinks with guarana and other stuff they add. Fruit can also add to your fluid intake. You should be careful not to drink excess water as this can damage your organs in your body but i think you would have to drink 4 litres or something for it to be a problem. You really need to drink water according to what your doing ie excercising or anthing else that may mean you need to keep up your fluid in take.

We need many fluids in our body because lack of water may lead us to dehydration.
We need to drink at least 8 glasses of water for a day.

i would say more then 5 cups, it really counts how much your body can take
