Yogurt expertise sought?!

Question:

Yogurt expertise sought?

Specific question: Is the protein in commercially produced yogurt, the kind you buy at any grocery, added to the yogurt, or naturally occurring in the yogurt? Basically, I am trying to figure out whether I am getting natural protein from food, or from a supplement added to the food during manufacture of a food that contains little or no protein on its own.

A link would be appreciated, but share what you know. Thanks.

Thanks both of you. BTW, I didn't do the thumbs down. I found both helpful in their own way.

It would depend on the brand and quality of the yogurt. Most commercial yogurt is from commercially farmed milk, which would contain the steroids, antibiotics, and growth hormones fed to most factory farmed animals. It would also likely contain gelatine, which is made from boiled animal skins, bones, ligaments, and tendons. If you have a local food co op or dairy, you might be able to get some high quality yogurt without the added garbage. The protein would be naturally occuring in the milk, but if its from commercially farmed animals, thats not a good thing.

I think the protein comes from the dairy. Keep in mind that the majority of grocery store yogurt is not vegetarian friendly..many have gelatin in them.
