Well... the recipe is simple. Very simple. . . . my dad cooks it like this:

you just boil the cow tounge in water with about 3 or 4 bay leaves and one whole thing of garlic (all 10-15 little cloves) until the little skin around the meat comes off and peels off the meat easily. If the skin does not peel, the meat inside is not ready and will be VERY TOUGH AND NOT GOOD!!! let it boil at a low temperature for HOURS! maybe 3 hours, really low low low heat. Once the skin comes off how im teling you, then you cool it down to where you can touch it with your hands without being burned... then peel it carefully and throw out all the skin which is tough and not that good. After you are done peeling it, then you cut the meat in sections that are about 3/4 inch thick. and you have yourself some round steaks that are small, circular but a little thick. How you season it after that depends on you, but if you like, you can also after doing these steps, put it in the oven for about 10 minutes so that the outer parts get toasty. if you are pregnant you will love it like this, with some mash potato and gravy on the side that would be perfect. another way you can eat tounge is how we MEXICAN do it. TACOS! you just simply cut up the meat once it is cooked in SMALL pieces as small as possible. Then you jkust put the cooked and hot meat on top of the tortilla and add fresh chopped cilantro, a little finely chopped onion and some salsa depending if you like spicy or not, you can just make a regular tomato salsa not that spicy and add that to the top. The very last thing that you CANNOT forget is A LOT OF LEMON!! this gives the meat an incredible flavor, but you must add it at the last moment once you are about to put the bite in your mouth! add salt and pepper and you are good to go and give you baby something he will want for the rest of his or her life!! cheers and good luck!!!

check out www.tasteofhome.com for recipes (maybe they'd have one)
or www.allrecipes.com
good luck with that. let me know how it turns out.

your going to get the food freaks out.
But the meat is Delicious if prepared in most any manner.
I think mine was par-boiled and baked >????
Some fools have wierd ideas because they NEVER have been hungry and have lived on fast food....

I love tacos de lengua, they are so good. The meat is so tender. I don't understand how you could be craving it, if you have never had it?? Anyways, this is one of the recipes from my mother in law.
1 beef tongue
5 fresh green chile peppers
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 white onion, sliced thinly
4 cloves garlic, minced
4 small tomatoes, halved and sliced
2 (15 ounce) cans whole kernel corn, drained
salt to taste
DIRECTIONS
Wash tongue and place in a large pot of water to cover. Simmer until no longer pink, about 50 minutes per pound of tongue. Remove from water and let rest until cool enough to handle. Peel skin from tongue and trim gristle. Cut into 1/4 inch slices.
Place whole peppers in a skillet over medium-high heat and roast, turning, until all sides are charred. Let cool, rub off skins. Remove stems and seeds.
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Saute chile peppers, onion and garlic until onion is translucent. Stir in tongue and continue to cook until tongue is brown, 5 to 10 minutes. Stir in tomatoes and cook until limp, 5 minutes. Pour in corn and heat through, 2 to 5 minutes. Season with salt. Serve immediately.

My parents used to occasionally fix beef tongue when I was a kid, but I have no clear memory on their preparation techniques. There are a few different recipes at http://www.recipezaar.com that you could try.

Regarding this out of the blue craving, I have to wonder what it really means. Even though you have never had beef tongue before, your body may be telling you that it needs certain nutrients such as iron, potassium, phosphorus, etc.

If you're feeling brave, definitely give beef tongue a try but maybe you should also take a look at your current diet to see what nutrients you might be lacking. And are you taking a good prenatal vitamin?

Buy a 2-21/2 lb beef tongue
wash it well
Put it into a soup pot and cover generously with water.
Add one tablespoon of salt, 6-8 peppercorns, 1 tbsp of vinegar and 1 tsp cloves
Boil slowly for at least 2 -21/2 hours on medium heat
when tender to a fork
pour out water and run cold water over cooked tongue
Peel outside skin off tongue, should come off very easily and the vinegar in the water helps this happen.
It is very good for slicing when cooled, for sandwiches.
Sometimes I roast it with my beef roast after peeling it.

the word/ name cow tongue, may well sound an unlikely food item to one who has never heard of it before, but practically speaking it can replace any recipe or mode of cooking that is used for ox tongue ,this i am sure sounds more acceptable. It can be made into a roast, sliced & served cold in salads or on a salad platter ,can even been pickled ,in countries where curries are a common dish ,diced tongue is also curried. When an animal is slaughterd for table use, apart from the cuts that reach the store or the butcher shop ,there is so much else that is put to good use.offal is cooked, scrap goes for pet food, hoof & horns make decorative items & fertiliser, these behind the scene activities are not common knowledge.

I ordered tongue once when I was in Algeria. I'm not sure exactly how it was prepared, but each time I took a bite I felt like I was getting french kissed.........I could feel those little bumps (taste buds?) with my tongue. Kinda freaked me a bit.

Animal tongues make excellent stew esp with heart... dice the tongue into 1/2" pieces (and heart if you want). Put into a pot of water (amount of water depends on how big a pot you use and how much tongue and other stuff you add). Dice a few carrots, about 4 stalks of celery, a small onion, a large tomato. Put into stew pot, mix tongue and veggies, adding seasonings to your taste (salt, pepper, Mrs. dash, stew seasoning packet, etc.) You can also add worchestshire sauce, soy sauce, etc. , all according to your taste. experiment. Let water be about an 1" over top of mix.

Put on stove top. bring to boil stirring occasionally. Once it starts to boil, lower heat and let simmer for about 45 min. Keep checking veggies after 45 min and let soften according to how you like it. Enjoy.

You can always add salt, pepper, tobasco or other flavorings into your individual bowl. goes well with soup crackers, soda crackers or other crackers.
