Is it bad to eat raw egg in America? If yes then why?!

Question:

Is it bad to eat raw egg in America? If yes then why?

I ate raw egg with everything before I came to America, so did everyone else in the country, but now Mother says I can't do it anymore! Makes no sense!

Answers:
The odds of getting an egg with Salmonella poisoning is very rare. The people most at risk for getting sick are elderly people, babies, and people with chronic illnesses. The Salmonella bacteria is found on the outside of the egg. So, if the egg is sanitized or pasteurized, the risk is eliminated. If you want to eat raw eggs without the risk of Salmonella poisoning, buy the sanitized or pasteurized eggs.

I do it occasionally, but people say its bad because of the risk of samonella poisoning. Just make sure the egg you are eating is fresh, and you should be okay.

Sounds gross to me Rocky did in his movie, but it still sounds gross.

I'm assuming you mean chicken eggs. Because of the way most chicken eggs are produced (overcrowded pens, overuse of antibiotics, etc), there is a good possibility of getting salmonella. The same problem exists with eating undercooked chicken.

I live in Japan, and people often eat raw eggs here, too.

I *think* that perhaps the egg standards aren't as strict in the US. The egg producers *expect* people to eat cooked eggs.

If you want to eat raw eggs still, I would buy the best, freshest eggs I possibly could (you might be able to buy them directly from an organic farm). Wash the shells before you crack them. And have something with the eggs, like wasabi or hot sauce. You may have built up immunities already, and it might be OK.

Salmonella is just very nasty. If you've had it once, you'll never want to eat a raw egg again. But, in general, I think it's OK to eat raw eggs if you are very careful about who you buy them from. Store the eggs in the fridge, too.

its bad to eat raw egg anywhere, it can give you saminila

there is a small chance you can contact the bacteria Salmonella food poisoning from raw eggs. Salmonella bacteria is a common bacteria in the egg laying environment and any mishap in handling can and does happen some times. That bacteria can be a severe disease and is not something you want to get. Cook your eggs and eliminate this risk.
