serving size
Makes about 1/2 cup (enough for a 9-inch tart).

ingredients
1 small garlic clove
1 cup fresh basil
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup extra-virgin olive oil preparation
With motor running, drop garlic into a food processor and finely chop. Stop motor and add basil, and salt, then process until chopped. With motor running, add oil, processing until incorporated. Transfer pesto to a small bowl and cover surface with plastic wrap. Chill until ready to use.

Substitue walnuts or pecans - we do it all the time. Yeah - it tastes different, but it is still yummy.

it will.. grind up the basil and add less olive oil to it, and it will be the same, but w/o nuts

Are you allergic to all nuts. I use walnuts when I make mine because pine nuts are too costly. If you can't eat any nuts just put a little more parmesan cheese in. It may taste a little different but still be OK.

Pine nuts don't really alter the flavor of the pesto, but the texture. You will need to add a bit more oil and cheese, but it should be about the same. Pesto is forgiving....

Just use any recipe for pesto, and omit the pine nuts. You might use a little less oil, or use a little more parm cheese. It will still be delicious. I sometimes use a little chicken stock and less oil to make it less fattening.

try sunflower seeds

i actually prefer pesto with no pine nuts. if you aren't allergic to all nuts try walnuts, it will be a little sweeter

Oops most pestos contain seeds or nuts of some sort-sorry about that!

Just omit the nuts altogether. I do it all the time. The taste is fine with just basil, parmesan cheese, olive oil, garlic and salt and pepper.

my mother swears by this one

1 cup basil
1 tsp salt
2 branches sweet marjoram
4 tbsp Parmesan cheese
1 cup olive oil

blend the basil & salt in a blender for 1 min, until pureed
slowly add the other ingredients, blending

will last 1 month in the fridge
3 months in the freezer

enjoy!
