Quark & Cottage Cheese What's the difference?!

Question:

Quark & Cottage Cheese What's the difference?

I have various recipes that list Quark as an ingreident, I asked a friend (who isn't the brightest spark) and she said just use cottage cheese.

Is she right or is there a difference?

Answers:
yes, the taste!
quark is like unsalted, smooth, tastes far more bland than c/c
cottage cheese is formed of little lumps with a watery/milky fluid. Its also higher in calories

hmm both are a cheese lol but cottage cheese is lumpier where as quark is smooth and is a bit creamier.

Quark is made from goats milk I think.

Quark is generally much smoother in consistency. It used to be that you could not get it very easily outside Germany but is now more readily available in most of the bigger supermarkets.

Cottage cheese is clumpy - I am Latvian and Latvians are supposed to like cottage cheese - but I hate it with a passion!
