How come I like sugarless gum but not diet soda?!

Question:

How come I like sugarless gum but not diet soda?

Don't they use some of the same sweeteners?

Answers:
Most sugarless gums use sugar alcohols like xylotol as their main sugar replacer. Most diet sodas use aspartame as their main sweetener. Aspartame has a more destinct aftertaste and is probably the reason you dislike diet soda.

It's gotta be psychological, because my 13 year old daughter is the same way. But maybe being mixed with different ingredients the sweetener tastes different.
