Here's a challenge for people with innovative recipe ideas.?!

Question:

Here's a challenge for people with innovative recipe ideas.?

Okay, I bought a can of baked beans, but after I get home I see that one of the cans had beans in Maple syrup .Now I hate any form of sweet beans, and maple syrup and sweet stuff over all.

Who can invent a recipe that can transform the beans to a spicy dish.

The most innovative and spicy idea will be the best answer. I don't care if its too hot.

Answers:
Add a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar ... at least it will cut some of the sweetness and give you a sweet/sour base ... maybe the addition of some chopped onions and/or garlic. I've made this error before at the market by shopping too quickly and not paying attention. After a couple of these mistakes ... now, I pay Closer attention to what I'm putting in my cart. Goof luck.

I invented this recipe for a chili contest I won 2nd place in. Omit the chocolate below, and substitue your beans for the beans in the recipe. You shouldn't even notice the sweetness as this dish turns out pretty spicy!

BEER CHILI CON CARNE

4 tablespoons olive oil
1 1/2 large onions
6 garlic cloves
2 lbs stew meat
1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup flour
1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
1 (15 ounce) can black beans
1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans
1/2 (7 ounce) can chipotle chiles in adobo
1 (12 ounce) bottle beer
1 cup chicken stock
2 1/2 tablespoons ground oregano
2 tablespoons chili powder
1 tablespoon ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 tablespoon ground cumin
1 1/4 ounces dark chocolate
1/4 cup of crushed corn tortilla chips

Chop onion and garlic, and cook over medium-low heat in 2 TB of oil until translucent. Remove.

Sprinkle stew meat with worcestershire sauce and coat in flour. Add to pan, with remaining oil and cook over medium-high heat until edges are brown. Remove.

Deglaze pan with chicken stock, and add chocolate to melt.

Add beer (Slowly! It may foam a bit), chipotle peppers in abodo, tomatos, onions, garlic, meat and spices.

Stir, cover, and let simmer on low for 4 hours.

Add crushed tortillas to thicken sauce.

Stir in beans, allow to simmer an additional 2 hours.

Refrigerate overnight. Reheat and serve.

I shortcut baked beans by using the canned ones, which don't require soaking for long periods of time.

However, the canned beans will retain some of the flavor of the stuff they were canned with...there's nothing you can do about that. I like a hint of sweetness in beans, but not an overpowering sweetness.

I'm guessing you've got cans that are around 15-18 ounces. You might try chopping a medium sized onion, one or two cloves of garlic, and as many jalapenos (or other chili peppers) as you like. Brown the onions first, then add the garlic and peppers---if you cook everything together, the garlic will burn, and the peppers will tear-gas you.

Add a tablespoon or so of lemon juice, and if you have some, a few drops of liquid smoke flavoring. Then add the beans, and cook until everything's heated through.

I was going to suggest adding heat before I even read you wanted it spicy. To deaccentuate the sweetness saute' a medium chopped onion and a minced clove of garlic in butter on low to medium until caramelized, add red pepper flakes and saute' a bit more. Add in beans, 1 1/2 Tablespoons spicy brown whole grain mustard, and a splash or two of Tabasco. Put in an oven proof saucepan, top with a few slices of bacon and bake at 375 til bacon is done and beans are bubbling. You may want to blast it under the broiler for 5 minutes to crisp and brown the bacon. Let me know if you like.

SAUSAGE BEAN BAKE

1 - 1 1/2 lbs. sausage (spicy is great!)
1 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. pepper
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. ketchup
2 tbsp. vinegar
1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
2 (21 oz.) cans pork and beans

Cook sausage and drain. In greased casserole dish, combine pork and beans, sausage, salt, pepper, brown sugar, ketchup, vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce. Bake at 350 degrees approximately 45 minutes.

Just dont add the brown sugar. This is great!!!

Rinse them good and spark-up the stove, combine everything in a pot and simmer for about 20-30 mins, if it starts to tighten up on you add more broth.

Ingredients:
1 lrg can baked Beans (rinsed)
1 1/2 C broth, chicken, veggie or beef
2 teaspoons of butter
2 cloves of garlic bruised
1 large onion chopped
3 strips of fried bacon crumbled
2 teaspoons of Worcestershire
1 teaspoon of curry powder
5 tablespoons of Chili Sauce
2 tablespoons dry Coleman's mustard
1 1/2 teaspoon salt

Why don't you just drain the beans (use a strainer), wash it out with water (this will wash out the maple syrup off the beans), immediately place it on a pan & add some TABASCO SAUCE to it. Whatever amount you feel comfortable with.
