There are many recipes that could be similar to what you are looking for. Many just need to adjust the ingredients, adding pineapple and bananas, etc. Here are a few --

Millionaire Fruit Salad

1 small package (3 ounces) cream cheese
3 tablespoons half-and-half
1/4 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons lemon juice
Dash salt
2 tablespoons sugar
1 cup diced pineapple
1 can (about 11 ounces) mandarin orange sections, drained
1/2 cup halved maraschino cherries
1/2 cup green or red seedless grapes, halved
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1 cup miniature marshmallows
1 cup whipping cream, whipped

Direction for fruit salad
Combine cream cheese and 3 tablespoons half-and-half; add mayonnaise, lemon juice, salt, and sugar. Combine cream cheese mixture with fruit, pecans, and marshmallows. Fold whipped cream into fruit salad.
Freeze this fruit salad in an 8-inch square pan.
Fruit salad serves 8.

Apple Banana Salad
As with many recipes, how much you use depends on how much you want to make.

Mayonnaise
Peanut Butter, creamy
Apples
Bananas
Orange segments (or Mandarine oranges)
(Also could add nuts, crushed pineapple)

In a large bowl, make the dressing by mixing with a spatula approximately equal parts mayonnaise and peanut butter...though most of the family likes a bit more peanut butter. The dressing should be creamy but not runny.

Core, quarter then cut apples into smaller than bite size pieces. Fold the apples into the dressing as you cut to avoid browning.

Peel and slice the bananas lengthwise. Cut each long slice into smaller than bite size pieces. Fold in gently. The best bite includes both apple and banana with enough dressing to hold it together. The salad can be served immediately or chilled, covered, for a few hours. If made too far in advance the dressing will separate.

Orange Salad

1 large box of orange Jell-O
1 large container of sour cream (16 oz)
1 large container of cool whip, defrosted
2 small cans of mandarin Orange (drained)
1 large can of pineapple tidbits (drained)

Put the sour cream in a large bowl, empty the dry Jell-O into the bowl.
Mix until the Jell-O is no longer gritty.
Dump in the drained fruit and the cool whip.
Fold all together.
Chill for about 30 min.

This is a wonderful light, not to sweet cold dessert for summer

Tips: Save some oranges to garnish the top. You can also alternate your fruit and Jell-O for example, use Strawberries and pineapple with strawberry Jell-O.

Enjoy! ~-~

This is a recipe for Ambrosia Salad. The bananas aren't listed in this one but you could just add them in. I would add about 1 cup of bananas to make this like your grandmother's.

1 cup coconut
1 cup mandarin orange segments, drained
1 cup crushed pineapple, drained
1 cup sour cream or lemon yogurt
1 cup miniature marshmallows

Combine all ingredients except marshmallows; chill for several hours.
Add marshmallows right before serving.
Also good with chopped pecans added!
Note: the original recipe had you mix the marshmallows in at the same time as the other ingredients, but I prefer to add them later as stated to keep them from getting mushy.

Mandarin Orange Fluff

16 oz. container of Cool Whip, thawed
16 oz. container of small curd cottage cheese
1 large box of orange Jello
1 large can mandarin oranges, drained
Large can of pineapple chunks or crushed pineapple, drained (optional - I don't use them in mine)

Mix well the Cool Whip and cottage cheese.
Stir in the dry Jello.
Fold in the drained mandarin oranges.
Chill several hours before serving. DELICIOUS!
