As a former chef who cooked in many international kitchens, they can be found in Greece, Lebanon, Egypt and all throught the middle east and in eastern europe even in Turkey.

The fillings vary from straight veg, to meat with rice like cabbage rolls, barley and as first stated with nuts.

Sauces to can vary, tomato, a egg and lemon sauce in Greece, to a meat sauce in Turkey.

C. Middle Eastern - most particularly Greek cuisine with that name but the Turkish make it as well

Middle-eastern of course. The word 'dolma' is Turkish and it means 'stuffed'. There is a controversy whether this dish(es) is Turkish or Greek, but who cares.
Mainly, dolma conjures 'stuffed vine leaves', although the same ingredients are also stuffed into tomatoes, potatoes, courgettes, artichokes.
There are two main types:
1- with ground beef
2- without any meat.
Main ingredients are: rice, chopped onions, parsley, tomatoes, spices etc.
If it is made without meat, we call it 'yalanci dolma' which in Turkish means 'false dolma'.
It is (and should be) cooked with olive oil.
We prefer to have natural yogurt with dolma.

Typically Middle-Eastern.
