Are energy drinks, such as Red Bull, good for you?!

Question:

Are energy drinks, such as Red Bull, good for you?

I hated the taste at first, but now am addicted to it. I work the graveyard shift and constantly on my feet as a casino dealer, and thus, need the energy boost that Red Bull has to offer. I can drink a lot of these in a single day, but trying to limit myself to about 2 instead. I read the label but nothing seems to be bad for your health. But some have told me they aren't good for you at all. A sugar free Red Bull has no carb and is low in cal. I tried coffee, but they're just not doing the trick. Any other alternative pick-me-up that I can take if those energy drinks are, indeed, bad for you?

Answers:
I like XS energy drinks. They have no sugar, no carbs, caffeine levels of a cup of coffee or caffeine-free. There are eight different flavors each packed full of B vitamins which is where you get the shot of energy you want. I order them on line at the link below. The site offers a free case of your choice of XS when you buy so many. They also will send you an email each month telling how close you are to free items you buy from them.

Energy drinks contain carbonation. Carbonation is bad for you because it drains the calcium out of your bones. Also carbonation will fill your stomach with gas, but that's not harmful, you'll just burb or fart.

Of course.. Red Bull gives you wings! It also tastes great!

Hi....
Energy drinks are beverages that are designed to give the consumer a burst of energy.
Energy drinks commonly include caffeine, guarana (extracts from the guarana plant), taurine, various forms of ginseng, maltodextrin, inositol, carnitine, creatine, glucuronolactone and ginkgo biloba. Some contain high levels of sugar, while most brands also offer an artificially sweetened version.

The problem with a lot of energy drinks is the high sugar and caffeine content. Both of which, if consumed in great amounts will have adverse affects on your health.

At times of extreme physical exertion, the body no longer produces the required amounts of taurine, and a relative deficiency results.
Taurine acts as a metabolic transmitter and additionally has a
detoxifying effect and strengthens cardiac contractility. While
taurine does not have a genetic codon and is not incorporated into proteins and enzymes, it does play an important role in bile acid metabolism. Taurine is incorporated into one of the most abundant bile
acids, chenodeoxychloic acid where it serves to emulsify dietary lipids in the intestine, promoting digestion. "

Catherine Collins, of the British Dietetic Association, said: '
There's been quite a lot of research looking at are (sic) the effects
of Red Bull on the heart and circulation.
And they have shown that if you take sufficient Red Bull, and other drinks that are performance enhancing, you can lower blood pressure and that may be the cause of the problem. Red Bull contains caffeine, taurine and glucuronolactone. The ill effects of excess caffeine consumption are very well known, but people vary in their tolerance for it.

In summary, one Red Bull a day is unlikely to do much harm. More than that and you should look at your overall caffeine consumption. Keep in mind not a lot is known yet about long term effects of Taurine as a supplement.
Hope its alittle useful..
all the best..
