Toxicity of Red Elderberries?!

Question:

Toxicity of Red Elderberries?

Are Red Elderberries toxic after being cooked to boiling with the stems removed?

Please, I can use Google too, and I've seen various heated opinions on both ends of the spectrum - I'm looking for knowledgeable first-hand experience.

Extra Credit Question: Do they taste anywhere near as good as Purple Elderberries? Is this line of investigation at all worth the effort?

Just to clarify... Red Elderberries are not quite the same as Purple Elderberries - which are quite good in jelly if you remove the skins and sugar it well. My question, however, concerns Red Elderberries.

I have made elderberry wine and although it is a good potent alcohol beverage after it has had sugar and maybe some raisins to kinda speed the process , no the berries are not toxic but i imagine it would be an acquired taste to get used to the bitterness. Purple berries are the ripe ready to pick ones. Not a bad jelly either.
