Guanara in energy drinks?!

Question:

Guanara in energy drinks?

Does anyone know the chemical/medicinal properties of guanara, which is used in energy drinks? Are there any serious side-effects of over-consumption of such drinks?

Answers:
Lots of caffeine in it. Also theophylline and theobromine (also found in chocolate.) All 3 are alkaloids and central nervous-system stimulants.
Caffeine is as I am sure you know the most common legal stimulant. It increases heartrate, causes blood vessels to dilate, and is extremely addictive. Overuse can cause problems ranging from increased heartrate, anxiety and sleep disorders, to baldness and even caffeine toxicity.
Theophylline interacts with various drugs. It increases blood pressure; can also cause nausea, diarrhea, increase in heart rate, arrhythmias and CNS excitation.
Theobromine is believed to be what addicts us to chocolate, it has a lesser impact on the central nervous system but affects the heart, also increasing heartrate, it's a diuretic and may increase the risk of prostate cancer.
Depends on what current problems / weakness you have and the amount consumed.
