2nd birthday picnic food ideas?!

Question:

2nd birthday picnic food ideas?

I am holding a picnic for my daughters 2nd birthday, there will be adults and kids there, any ideas for some good foods to serve?

Answers:
Since you say it is a picnic, then I assume it will be outside. As such, I usually try to stay away from foods that can go bad if they sit out in the heat.

Normal picnic fare should be great (sandwiches, finger foods, chips, etc.). But it's some of the special touches that I think add the best flare.

I always offer up freshly sliced watermelon. The kids have a blast eating it, and so do the adults. Did you know that it contains a huge amount of vitamins, including lycopene which is known to help prevent cancer. It also packs a huge punch of vitamin C and other vitamins...but few calories. Make a game out of spitting the seeds if your guests are the fun type.

Our family loves cucumber salad, and amazingly, my 13 year old son loves it. It's just sliced cucumbers (white onions optional) with vinegar, a little oil, and sugar and parsley. Stays fresh, tastes refreshing.

I'm sure you'll get many other great ideas. Wishing your daughter a fabulous birthday, with good health and many blessings!

Bucket Salad for side dish

INGREDIENTS

2 heads iceberg lettuce, torn into bite-sized pieces
4 tomatoes, diced
1 large onion, chopped
6 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
1 (14.5 ounce) package corn tortilla chips, broken
2 (12 ounce) jars creamy Ranch salad dressing
1 (12 ounce) jar chunky salsa
2 pounds ground beef

DIRECTIONS

As you tear and chop the lettuce, onion, and tomatoes, place them into a large container. I always use a clean bucket, hence the name, and it is full when the salad is completed. Crumble in the tortilla chips, and add the cheese. Stir in the two jars of Ranch dressing, and the salsa. Mix well. Set aside.

Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat, stirring and crumbling as it cooks. Drain off grease. Stir the beef into the salad just before serving.

Chicken Potato Salad

INGREDIENTS

4 cups quartered small white or red potatoes
3/4 pound skinless, boneless chicken breast halves - cubed
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 (10 ounce) package mixed salad greens
1 small red onion, sliced and separated into rings
3/4 cup Caesar salad dressing
1/3 cup croutons
2 tablespoons shredded Parmesan cheese

DIRECTIONS

Place potatoes in a large saucepan and cover with water. Cover and bring to a boil over medium-high heat; cook for 15-20 minutes or until tender. Meanwhile, in a skillet, saute chicken in oil for 5-10 minutes or until tender. Meanwhile, in a skillet, saute chicken in oil for 5-10 minutes or until juices run clear. Drain potatoes; add to chicken.

Place greens and onion in a serving bowl. Top with chicken mixture. Drizzle with dressing; sprinkle with croutons and Parmesan cheese. Serve immediately.

Grill hot dogs and hamburgers. Make small hamburgers for the kids. put on tea rolls cut cherry tomatoes in slices and cut lettuce with cookie cutters. mix a fruit salad and make fun things with jello molds like eggs and cars. For snacks you can try puppy chow, funnel cake, brownies. Top it off with a glass of lemonade.

Grill hotdogs for the kids and sausage dogs for the adults. Serve it with potato salad or chips, baked beans, and lemonade or a big tub of iced down sodas and wine coolers or beer. For dessert, of course, you will want to serve the traditional icecream and cake! The kids might enjoy their own bottles of Squeezits iced down in the tub, too! They are in plastic bottles, so no broken glass! I would get the little icecream cups to make serving it more simple!
