Can i substitute butter for shortening?!

Question:

Can i substitute butter for shortening?

I'm making cookies and i need shortening but i don't have any.. what can i substitute for it?

Answers:
I use Smart Balance spread as it is healthier than butter or shortening.

Yes, especially shortbread cookies.
Look for recipes that call for butter
There are some recipes that call for vegetable or corn oil also and you might have that on hand.

YES

You can use butter, or any other fat for that matter. I.E. cooking oil.

Yes you can use butter

They would taste better too

it would depend on the recipe. if it called for a substitution
it would have stated it. shortening and butter have VERY different cooking properties, don't waste your time or materials if you haven't the proper ingredients.
