What excactly is Tofu?!

Question:

What excactly is Tofu?

and what's it made off?

Answers:
I make my own from soy beans, and here is how it is done.

You mash the softened beans and let them steep (like tea) in boiling water for about fifteen minutes. This produces a milky substance - also known as soy milk.
While this is hot you add some mineral salts to the liquid - and let it set for about twenty minutes. The milky substance has separated into "curds" and "whey." Drain out the curds and press them into a brick. The harder you press the firmer the tofu becomes.

The process is very similar to making cheese.

Homemade tofu is much better tasting, and healthier than store bought tofu. I make main dishes with it, and desserts.

it is coagulated soy milk. then made into squares. It picks up the flavor of whatever you put with it. It has little or no flavor on its own. It is also very healthy for you. It is a mainstay in Japanese food.

soft beancurd.. made of soya beans.. kinda no taste my mom love cooking it in soup but i dont like it .. but its healthy.. here i live its available throughout the whole country .. if u want to try it mabye find an asian supermarket.. they should have it .

Tofu (the Japanese "Romaji" spelling), also called doufu (the Chinese "Pinyin" spelling often used in Chinese recipes) or bean curd (the literal translation), is a food of Chinese origin[1], made by coagulating soy milk, and then pressing the resulting curds into blocks. The making of tofu from soy milk is similar to the technique of making cheese from milk. Wheat gluten, or seitan, in its steamed and fried forms, is often mistakenly called "tofu" in Asian or vegetarian dishes.

Its a soy product...

and the most disgusting soy product I've ever tasted, I might add lol

I think its more the texture that I don't like..

It's true that it doesn't really have a taste. It picks up the flavor of whatever you cook with it. It's a great source of protein.

it mean bean curd, made from soya bean.

A staple in Asia for 2,000 years, tofu is known for its extraordinary nutritional benefits, as well as its versatility. Tofu, also known as soya curd, is a soft cheese-like food made by curdling soya milk with a coagulant. Tofu is a rather bland tasting product that easily absorbs the flavours of the other ingredients. Tofu is sold in water-filled packs or in aseptic cartons. Fresh tofu is usually packaged in water and should be refrigerated and kept in water until used. If the water is drained and changed daily, the tofu should last for one week. Tofu can be frozen for up to three months. Freezing will change its texture however, it will make the tofu slightly chewier.

Another word for garbage.

Tofu is made of soybeans. I have no idea why people say tofu is bland. Being Chinese, my parents made tofu a staple in my diet. I don't find it bland at all, but that's my opinion.
