Why is English cuisine considered so bad among Europeans?

AS a cuisine goes, it lack imagination and creativity. Actually England is at the fringe of the known world and was late trading with other nations when cuisine was forming. Rome has an extensive trade with asia, but many of the goods never reached England. Afterwards, Italy had extensive trade in the middle east, Spain learn knew techniques with the moorish occupaion, and Germany acquired knowledge of foods from asia via trade from Russia. France who had some mediteranean trade also gain knowledge of cuisine when a French King married a medici. This act brought new knowledge and help turn France into the center of European cuisine. England on the other hand was late in trading, and the foreign foods has not intermesh with english cuisine. Cuisine evidently is created by marrying ideas from foreign sources. A lot of English food does come from its colonization period. Piccadeli, Fish and CHips, Worstershire sauce and others.

Prejudice.
But saying that, we've moved a long way. My father never ate "rabbit food" aka salad, and thought that sauces were "sissy".

It may have something to do with lack of information! misguided appetites! English cuisine is good, versatile, rich in variety and taste! (ask Jeeves!

Well, the French are a pretty snobby when it comes to food, they don't think anyone can cook but them. Italians well, which would you choose, English or Italian cuisine. Pretty much it is a matter of taste and what people are used to. The closer to the medditerranian you get you are going to see more use of strong flavorful seasonings. No doubt most think English food is bland in comparison.

English food is an international culinary joke. I don't think they would recognize a fish, unless it was covered in breadcrumbs swimming in oil, and served with a side of chips. The English had control of most of the known world, and all they have to show for it is curry. (FYI curry is a spice, not a food) As an American living there for 2 years, I heard allot of hamburger jokes, To which I replied "go boil your meat." I had a hamburger there once at The Rat and Parrot. All I can say is I understand why they make fun of them. I had to ask the waitress if it was rat or parrot.

yeah, i mean it basically boils down to this (pun?): there is so much good product available naturally in other areas of europe. areas where you can grow good vegetables for much of the year other than potatoes and turnips and eat fish other than cod and cockles. the french and italians have more to work with. the germans have sausages just like the english but also have alsace which basically gave them just enough french influence to edge out england. i even like polish food more than english food ive had. its seasoned well and fairly creative. england does have better music than any other european country though. maybe england is just too busy rocking and drinking whisky and lager to give a shite about eating.

I had some really good meals at friends' homes in England...they were French. My mom was a expat Brit, and could destroy a chop easily, overcooking was in her cookbook. Probably the Brits like a certain type of food they find familiar, Fish and Chips popular here in Mexico--go figure.
