When the South American's jacked up the price

Not sure whether it was the late sixties or very early seventies but they definitely took away the 'get high' feeling it gave people when they realised it was 'coca' leaves used that caused it.
Best wishes, Mike.

TOO SOON!!! I could really use a pick me up that everyone considers OK. Maybe they can make an "E" popsicle.

too expensive?

I think it was the later sixties, perhaps because they learned the dangers of it?

1903

Until 1905, the soft drink, marketed as a tonic, contained extracts of cocaine as well as the caffeine-rich kola nut.

Who says they did.
