Are peanuts a type of nut?!

Question:

Are peanuts a type of nut?

Answers:
Not really....

"The peanut, or groundnut (Arachis hypogaea) is a species in the legume family Fabaceae native to South America.

Although a nut in the culinary sense, in the botanical sense the fruit of the peanut is a woody, indehiscent legume or pod and not a nut."

Peanuts are a legume (like peas and bean), they grow under the ground.

They are strictly speaking a pod and not a nut.
