Bad British Beef?!

Question:

Bad British Beef?

I have lived in the UK for a long time (almost 2 years) but I seem to have problems finding good beef. I am from Canada where all the beef is grain fed and tastes much better as opposed to grass fed. When I buy mince (ground) beef at the Sainsbury's I cannot even eat it - it tastes so bad. Any recommendations on how I should go find beef.

PS - Even the Aberdeen Angus stuff is bad.

Answers:
A suggestion I can make is that you find a local butcher and discuss the matter with him, there is some wonderful beef out there and dont forget the supermarkets cater for the lowest common denominator. A good butcher should be able to supply some first class beef, it is his business, and if you dont get any joy vote with your feet and find another butcher.

I recently saw a programme BBC food that had a farmer that organically raised his cattle and they were 'finished' by being grain fed a month before slaughter. So the product is there.

One warning be prepared to pay for quality and good luck, nothing like a bar b qued steak on the weekend

go to new zealand and buy your beef. I havent tasted canadian beef but i bet you'll never look back. we feed our beef good old-fashioned grass and it appears to work well.

come back to canada
