Please, tell me what you know about guppas :) ?!

Question:

Please, tell me what you know about guppas :) ?

What are they made of? Are there different types? Are there different ways of preparing them, in different regions of India? Are they eaten in other countries? Do you prepare them at home, or eat out? Any good recipes? What else should I know?

Thak you for your answer, and have a wonderful day! :)

LOL....hi moon..

ok..if you must know...it's called gol-guppa in most of northern india...pani puri in west..and in bengal (it's a state in the eastern part of india)..it's called a puchka..and if there are any other names for it, i don't know them...

these are small little puffed up balls(the size of a ping pong ball) made of white flour dough, then cut into small round shapes, and deep fried.....

they are usually eaten with boiled chick peas, boiled potatoes, chilled, full of spices, tangy water, and sweet and sour tamarind chutney....

the right way to have them is to make a hole..put in a little bit of chick pea, small amount of finely chopped potato, a dash of tamarind chutney, fill it over with the spicy water...and put it whole in your mouth...

or...they can also be prepared with curd, boiled potatoes, and sweet tamarind chutney...

i've never made them myself, nor have i ever heard of anybody who does..but, i'm sure they can be made at home if somebody takes the trouble...

see this link

what else should you know?...hmmm if they are made right, you can feel heat coming out of your ears(from all the spice) when you eat one...

good luck... :)

A gol guppa is a small hollow oval of the lightest pastry that is dipped into a fiery liquid sauce made of tamarind and cayenne and lemon and cold water. It is evidently a food invented as a joke, in a moment of good humor
