Question:

What foods can you buy with food stamps?

i need something like a list of some of the things that you can buy this is all new to me thanks for the help

Answers:
You can buy any food other than hot prepared food. Now in the deli section of most grocery stores they have stickers that say EBT approved on the food that you can buy. Some states even allow you to buy seeds for your garden because this produces food. Here is a website that will help you tremendously. http://www.fns.usda.gov

Here is their answer to your question.
10. What foods are eligible for purchase with food stamps?
Households CAN use food stamp benefits to buy:

Foods for the household to eat, such as:

breads and cereals;

fruits and vegetables;

meats, fish and poultry; and

dairy products.

Seeds and plants which produce food for the household to eat.

Households CANNOT use food stamp benefits to buy:

Beer, wine, liquor, cigarettes or tobacco

Any nonfood items, such as:

pet foods;

soaps, paper products; and

household supplies.

Vitamins and medicines.

Food that will be eaten in the store.

Hot foods

In some areas, restaurants can be authorized to accept food stamp benefits from qualified homeless, elderly, or disabled people in exchange for low-cost meals. Food stamp benefits cannot be exchanged for cash.

Hope this helps. Good Luck

In other words, no junk food! No soda, no cigarettes, no beer, etc...

Anything thats not hot prepared. That means everything in a store thats not a deli item such as chicken.you can Even candy and junk food. But you cant buy alcohol.

I grew up on food stamps... back when they actually had the books with the fake looking money.

Back then, you could buy anyfood as long as it wasn't hot or prepared.

I am sure it is the same, however, I though nowadays they gave you an access card. Which is like a debit card and you take cash out. That's how they do it in my area I believe, unless you get the card and the stamps.

you can buy most anything that is edible as long as your state has no objection to pre papared foods like in a hot deli...
even candy.
you cant buy anything that is taxed like soap,bleach,antiperspernt... get it ? edible not edible... understand?
cheers
josie
ps if you go to the store and go thru the check out and you owe the store money that means you picked up something that was not edible or taxed...

i get food stamps,i can tell you what you cant but,alochol items,cigerretes,all ready prepared food.hope this helps

You can buy any food item that is not from a hot deli like the ones in a grocery store. You can not buy paper items or soap and things like that.

I personally think that you should only be able to buy things that are healthy for you, but whatever. I used to work in a grocery store and I would see people w/ food stamps buying nothing but junk food and pop. They would also buy really nice steaks and expensive seafood, things I couldn't afford. But I'm helping them pay for it, guess that's all that matters.

There should be more control over what can be bought with it.

No offense to you or anything, just know that a lot of people abuse it and stay on it for LIFE!!! Raise their kids on it, when they grow up they get on food stamps too, and starts the cycle of abuse.

You can buy ust about any food item i believe, although food items like rum cake i'm not sure about. LOL. but i'm pretty sure that every other food item that is "acceptable" it covered by food stamps. i was on them and i never tried to buy rum cake or anything of that sort so thats the only reason i'm not sure of that one.

anything that is not prepared (pizza and chickenwings) you should be able to buy subs though, and you can buy pretty much anything except paper goods (paper towel, plates etc) most everyday food items

Just about anything. But no deli, no vitamins or supplements, no toilet paper or paper products, no shampoo,etc, no cleaning supplies, no pet food or pet products. Frozen foods are ok and soda pop is ok.

u can buy any food with foodstamps but its only food thats it

you can buy any food that is not prepared and considered HOT...like you can't go to the deli and get a meat, veg, bread, etc. and pay for that. You can buy ANY food, soda, candy, mints, chips, fruit, milk, eggs, etc. baby food, juice, etc
