Question about Maccheroni alla Chitarra?!
Question about Maccheroni alla Chitarra?
Hi. I am doing a cultural task for Italian on food in Abruzzo. I have picked the dish that I want to answer the questions with (Maccheroni alla Chitarra). I need to know the answer very, very soon.
When do people eat this dish? At what time of the day?
Answers:
Relatives from Calabria... a little further south than Abruzzo. My experience is from Italians (grandmother, great aunts, etc.) that had come to America, we used to eat this dish for supper. Usually preceeded by a course of antipasta. Since they brought a lot from the old country, I can only assume that this is what they do in Italy.
I just read Ivella's answer and now that I think about it, we had this dish mostly for Sunday supper at grandmas where everybody came (usually we ate around 3 or 4 in the afternoon.) Other dishes which were served on Sunday dinners were gnocchi and ravioli (both homemade). Hope this helps.
Should be eaten for dinner, but just because it's definitely not a light dish, not for any other reason.
So, there's not any kind of rule.
From the previous answer, if it is a heavy dish then I would think most italians would eat this at lunch so it isn't sitting on your stomach all night when you are sleeping. I lived in italy and my dinners with my family usually were kept light and and pastas were reserved for lunch.
I would imagine that this would have been a Sunday Dinner Specialty (which would have been a mid-day affair).
The People eat this dish at night, Its a dinner dish.
