Grilled cheese without margerine?!

Question:

Grilled cheese without margerine?

Have you ever made a grilled cheese without margerine? Did it turn out ok? Using just 2 pieces of bread and 1 slice of cheese, can I make one?

Answers:
Sure, I do it all the time...just keep the heat low and use a non-stick pan...gotta watch those calories!

Yes for sure! Cheese can stand alone without margarine.

Hey, thanks for adding me as one of your contacts. It's actually my first time to receive and accept one- you're lucky, you're a star! ^_~

There needs to be some kind of oil to fry in, or you'll just have toast. I've used olive oil before, and low-fat mayo.

I use mayonaise and butter, and it turns out fine.

If you don't want to use anything but cheese and bread put it in the toaster and make toasted cheese instead of grilled.

ive never used margarine - go for it

You can make it. But if you are going to do that I would suggest just making some cheese toast.

Preheat oven to 350
Put 2 slices of bread on a baking pan
Place 1 slice of cheese on each piece of bread
Bake for approximately 5-7 minutes or until cheese is melted and the edges of the bread are toasted to your liking.

I do it every day in my George formam...... Try using a slice of cooked bacon and 2 kinds of cheese

Yes, you can make one, but....
I use the fat free spray and still get a nice crisp crust.....just do not overload the bread.
Without some kind of oil the outside does not brown as nicely...
Peace.

Sure you can, and it won't be as fattening and high in cholesterol. Just use calorie free vegetable spray in your frying pan and cook the sandwich that way.

Lightly spread mayonnaise on the outside of the bread - it browns much better than margerine or butter and won't scorch as easily.

I have done this a lot. We call it toasted cheese. I generally toast the bread, so one side gets brown. Then flip the bread and top the toasted side with cheese. Back in a 350 oven it goes.

Yes, I spray the pan with Pam, Then put the cheese sandwich in, Spray the top so when you turn it over the Pam will be on bottom. Cook until brown on both sides.
It's very good, especially with butter flavored Pam.

Olive oil. Put in pan. Cook one side. Than take sandwich out of pan and add more oil. Finish sandwich. Tastes great and is healthier.
