Is it better to wash your food under hot or cold water?!

Question:

Is it better to wash your food under hot or cold water?

Answers:
Use cold water for any leafy or green vegetables,
hot water can be used for tomatoes if peeling them.
Warm water is OK for root vegetables, or hard fruit.
Chicken can be rinsed under cold water while skinning.
Other meats should only be wiped with paper towel.

COLD! Hot breeds bacteria!

cold water is best well thats what i do i think hot water would just start the cooking process and that would be bad hot water from a tap is not hot enough to do any benifits to the veg and seems double cooking is bad

vegetables and fruits with cold to make them fresher..
meat with warm water then scrub it with salt.. and add some vineger..

i think cold water is better

yeah! what she said! no really and hot/warm water can also start to cook the outside - and wilt anything leafy.

Most things I've read , stress rinsing thoroughly and don't specify hot or cold.
''How do I wash produce?
Wash your hands with soap and water before preparing food. Rinsing produce thoroughly with running water that is safe enough to drink is considered the best way to remove dirt and reduce microorganisms that may be present. When rinsing vegetables such as lettuce or cabbage, remove and discard the outer leaves before rubbing gently under running water to loosen any dirt. Fruits and vegetables that have firm surfaces, such as melons, potatoes and carrots should be scrubbed with a clean brush. Rinse all produce even if the skins will not be consumed. Dirt and microorganisms on the surface can be passed to the flesh when the fruit or vegetable is cut. Do not use soap to wash fruits or vegetables. Soap residues can remain on the produce and can be absorbed. Soaps have not been approved for use on foods. Rinsing with vinegar or baking soda can alter the taste of the produce. Mixtures of chlorine bleach and water are also not recommended.''

i use cold water to wash fruits off, lettuce you will don't have to just peel the outer leaves, hot water if you use it may cause them too wilt as for meat it will tend to make the meat tough after you cook it, i usally marinate my meat after i wash it with salt. some garlic and wochester sauce and little olive oil

I always use cold water for rinsing/washing any foodstuffs. Main reason is that hot water comes from a tank. If you have ever drained and flushed your water heater and looked at what comes out, you can see my reasoning. Professional chefs never use hot water, even for boiling food. They always start with cold water.

hot water, it gets rid of bacterias.

hot because if ya wanna take the germs away...ya gotta makle it warm..but in cold..the germs are gonna increase and wen its hot...it melts the iceyness away. comprendo?`

cold is better, it wont heat the bacteria up ad get em frenzied n multiplying. also a lot of stuff wouldnt b good washed in hot water. could u imagine ur nice spinach salad all cooked in hot water? i love cooked spinach, but not if i wanted a salad
