Question:

Daily minimum amount of protein?

i am around 85-92 pounds and i need to know the daily amount of protein i need to get. i am becoming a vegetarian and i dont know how much protein i need to stay healthy. i've heard 30grams but then i heard 60 grams. i know it depends on weight. and i am active. i was just wondering. anyone know?

Answers:
It's actually about 20 grams. Don't let people freak you out over protein. The best ting you can do is to eat ALOT of leafy greens. They can be blended into yummy smoothies. Greens get 30-50% of their calories from protein and are aslo high in calcium and iron. Get a variety of greens and a couple of handfuls of almonds and you're good to go. No need for soy--it's not even good for you! Be sure to get enough healthy fats too---virgin olive and coconut are the best!

50 grams

Like you said, it depends on a few factors like activity level and your size. Not all bodies are created equal. The average person needs about 9 grams for each 20 lbs of bodyweight.

you need around 30. Not 50 or 60. 60 is for 145-150 ish lbs.

Hey Girl...

So, technically the old stand by is that you should be getting about 55-60 grams a day. However, if you are pretty active, and lift weights, etc., you should be getting about .5 grams of protein per every one pound of body weight. Since you are fairly light, your protein should be (if you are about 90 pounds), about 45 grams of protein a day. Just remember to drink lots of water because protein tends to be a bit hard on your liver! Good Luck!

I'm lifting weights right now and I have to take in 1 - 2 grams of protein for every pound I want to be at. So I would say you would be alright if you took in about 3/4 of a gram of protein for every pound you would like your ideal weigh to be at. So your desired weight X .75 = ???

If you want to stay at that range 85 - 92 yeah your talking around 60 grams. Anyone who tells you otherwise doesn't intake the mount of protein their body needs to keep muscles from not breaking down. You won't die if you only do 30 though. I'm not a strict dieter so I just kinda eat whatever and basically drink 4 protein shakes a day. 60 grams per shake.

1 ribeye steak's worth should do it. Veal is really tasty too.

At your weight I'd say 30-35 grams a day. Keep in mind that protein absorbs calcium before it becomes waste. A problem many females have with vegetarianism and veganism is osteoporosis as a result of this absorption. If you go vegan OR vegetarian, be sure and take a calcium supplement (or drink calcium enriched juice) regardless of the amount of protein you consume.
