Do you feel that artificial sweeteners are safe or not?
Why?
Answers:
I don't think they are very safe - at least not in large amounts. One of the sweeteners (I can't remember which - in blue packets at coffee stands) can be used as a poison for killing ants - it's sweet so they take it back to their hill, but it kills them off.
One of the sweeteners causes "loose bowel movements" when you consume too much (my mind is just going blank right now with the names of these). Read the labels closely on your food.
And if they're still using 'Nutrasweet' - that's caused headaches in a few people I know.
Splenda seems to be okay though.

my Dad's diabetic - we've got plenty of artificial sweeteners around
i dont know but the i do love diet sodas and its better than consuming regular soda
Don't really know until you die and by then, it's too late. I use Splenda because I am not supposed to use sugar and I can't stand the taste of the other stuff.
I trust Splenda all the way. It's made from sugar.
The others give me a tummy ache and leave an aftertaste.
I love splenda, I think that it is safe because its or gins are sugar based.
Because the long term effects are not known for many of the artificial sweeteners, I would not give them to children or consume them while expecting. Even sugar in high concentrations can have negative effects.
However, I still feel that in moderation they are perfectly safe for adults. I use Splenda. My family has a history of an allergic reaction to NutraSweet, so I avoid it when I can.
I personally feel that it is best to avoid anything that is "artifical" but that doesn't mean that I never consume them. I personally prefer to use Honey over artifical sweetners.
The stuff in equal is pretty bad. Just google the chemical phenelphaline(check spelling). I know I stopped using it because I had a large amount of headaches. After I stopped I had no headaches and didn't feel lousy throughout the day. The stuff in sweet and low can't be good either. The real solution is just to have a smaller intake of sugar and not use the artificial stuff.
they are safe- i am still living
if you are concerned about your health, just avoid it =)
As far as I know, artificial sweeteners aren't safe at all. Like aspartame for example, which is used in diet sodas. It is carcinogenic, meaning it can cause cancer.
