Cactus Salad or nopalitos ensalad...how do you eat it?!

Question:

Cactus Salad or nopalitos ensalad...how do you eat it?

I'm eating it with a fork but what do Mexicans or Hispanics do with it?

Answers:
We usually eat it with tortillas or these cakes made from ground up shrimp.

yum yum yum yum yum! They generally rinse it well with water, drain well, then serve in tortillas cold with the crumbling kind of Mexican cheese. I love these in salads too, especially if it is with a Mexican flair!

Diced up Nopalito goes in everything. It doesn't have much of a strong taste...only greenish. People make pickles out of it.

I fix Nopales and eggs w/ chili sauce. Very good and served w/ homemade tortillas.

Since thier set up is the same as ours I would say a fork would do that's what I use. I also have served it in a lettuce leaf. This is where I got my recipe.

Nopalitos are great in soups and stews, especially ones that contain stew meat, if you got the canned type, just add to your soups about half way through the cooking cycle. If you have the fresh kind, wash them thoroughly, then cut into strips sorta resembling french fries. BTW, basil works into these soups and stews as well...Enjoy
