What type of knife is it and what is it used for?!

Question:

What type of knife is it and what is it used for?

I just bought a knife set and it came with a small knife that had a curved blade. What is the name of this type of knife and why would i use it?

Answers:
It's likely a paring knife if the blade is short, like 3-4" long. Paring means peeling - it's for peeling fruits and vegetables.

cutting thin layers of fruit

fillet knife

for fish, etc

Sounds like a Paring Knife for fruit, etc- if it's a small blade. If it's a large curved blade, then it could be a Filet knife - for fish, meat etc.
Hope this helps..
:-D

cutting rope or fruit is this a kitchen knife set

It's called the Lorena Bobbet 2000, Used to slice meat, Just ask her husband.

Its for peeling fruit or vegetables. The curved blade allows you to remove the maximum amout of skin without removing too much flesh.

It sounds like you have a Bird's Beak Paring Knife also know as a ''Tournée'' Knife. Its mostly a paring knife used in making presentation. See if it looks like this:

Sounds like a boning knife. Unlike the Bobbitt answer, it's actually used for cutting the meat away from the bone. If the blade is flexible, that's what it probably is.

I'm still laughing at TE's answer, but anyways, it's a fillet knife

sounds like a boning knife or filet knife...

it's used for butchering, fileting meat, etc

Sounds like a filleting knife to fillet meat with

I think this is a "granny" paring knife used for either fruit or to pull small portions of meat off of the bone. I have one of these, too, and I use it to cut limes. :-)
