Why do people say British food is so bad?!

Question:

Why do people say British food is so bad?

I've never had any British food.

Answers: i think its that other countries rely on spices more, so british cuisine gets labeled boring. but based on jamie oliver and nigella lawson, is say british cuisine is just fine... Ha ha ha.....

It's because they boil everything......

Here's an interesting site...

http://www.seriouseats.com/2007/02/in-de... it does seem that they boil everything.

They did get it right on fish and chips though. because it is not at all sure It may be that its a few people who have had some bad experiences ,,people seem to go towards foods that thave a big taste and British foods are more simple and blander like American foods sort of boring to some people ,,and unusual ingiedents like bubble and squeek ,,kidney pie its a stero type I think ,but if some people tryed it and didnt like it then the word spreads I have not tryed any ,but my friend frm London couldnt wait to get home cause he didnt like the food here lol Because they cook food the same way they wash their clothes...soaking in hot water. Well, for the same reason cities are given bad reputations for something -- ignorance. The British do so many things well. From pies -- kidney and steak and others -- to lamb (# 1) to desserts. Of course, everyone wants someone to put down. The Brits are MUCH better than, for instance, the Germans or the Koreans. They do??
I love English fish and chips.....yummyyyyyyy!!!
I like Shepherd's Pie, Pork Pie, Chicken Pie, all the pies.
I like Scotch Egg (delicious) too.
Yes, most vegetables are boiled with some salt.
Now, isn't that healthy and oil-free, huh?
---------British food is so good......Jamie Oliver rocks-------- Have you ever been to a great"ENGLISH" restaraunt? I've never even heard of one.. Just to sound "in the know" ...and if pressed, you will find not only are they *not* anything of the sort, but the rest of their opinions are just as dotty!

British food is lacking only three things, in my opinion: fresh green salads, reallly nifty bread, and a habit for cooked, fresh vegetables ...
other than that it is quite admirable in other respects, a cuisine all its own ....from a breakfast tradition all their own, elevenses, lunch, tea at 3 / high tea at 5:30, and dinner ...

they have tea parties
tea shops
wine bars
pubs

quickly I can think of
* roast beef, Yorkshire pudding, Cumberland sauce, horseradish cream and roasted potatoes ...
* all sorts of cheeses
* crackers, scones, oat cakes, Scotch Shortbread
* nifty drinks, like Claret Cup (which is a close relative of Sangria)
* bangers (sausages)
* all sorts of roasts and chops
* fresh seafood; smoked like kippers, some like fish & chips; fish pies, fish chowders; smoked salmon fr. Scotland...
* all kinds of meat pies, some with potato on top, some with pastry
* desserts: puddings (some of them steamed and served with sauces of various kinds: vanilla custard, hard sauce ....), cakes ... for tea, like Dundee Cake, cream cakes with fresh fruits & cream: and little sweet pies like Banbury Tarts ...
* a penchant for treacle: in ginger sweets, cakes ...
* an Inclusion of foods from India
which they have made room for at home in England: curries, mango chutney
* all kinds of berries .....for desserts....
and don't forget ..
* jams, jellies, preserves .....very English and you would not recognize afternoon tea without them .. or breakfast (especially marmalade)
* all sorts of very well-loved biscuits from Jammie Dodgers to Jaffa Cakes ...not part of 'classic cuisine' but by now adopted and loved
* and well-loved dishes with amusing names like Bubble & Squeak, Bangers & Mash, Toad in the Hole,
Skirlie, Colcannon
* ales & beer While fish & chips are good in England, they're the best in New Zealand.

The one thing I did really love in England were the.... cream teas... I think that's what they're called. Well, it's when you take a biscuit and put jam and clotted cream on top.

Other than that, from my experience, it really wasn't that great. But it also wasn't that horrible. But when you compare to say... any meal in France... well, you know. Ho and hum if you never had chicken tikka you missed out the whole point!!!!!
100% brit! Miss Darjeeling: Tea is not at 3:00 but at 4:00 traditionally. High tea is between 5:00 and 7:00 , and is a meal with substantial food; not just fancy cakes and sandwiches. However, elevenses and the other stuff you got right. And thanks for pointing out that the British have some good food. They do. One more thing: It is Scots or Scottish shortbread, not Scotch. Scotch is what one drinks.

They got the reputation for bad food especially during the war; when things were in very short supply and it was safer to boil everything. Other than that, the rest of the world is wrong about the food.

They do enjoy fresh salads and have some excellent veggies traditionally. They make some of the the world's best cheeses, and the bread is wonderful. Cakes are also hard to beat as are the steamed puds.

So there.

I was raised on British food; as my family is English. Because it is bland my dear. Just boiled.
