Answers: If you were to drink alcohol, you should drink low carb beer or Vodka with diet soda. Carbohydrate = sugar. You want to stay away from sugar/carbohydrate. Many of the fruit flavored vodkas have no carbs either, try mixing them with diet sprite or diet rite white grape. Beer. My sister was diagnosed two years ago. She gave up wine and liquor because they both had an impact on blood sugar and how she felt. MAJOR hangovers with wine. If you're going to insist on drinking, you may want to try a low-carb beer. I believe Miller has one. Any beer or alcohol is high in carbohydrates and that turns into sugar.

Check with your doctor for specifics and to see if he/she has any suggestions. Don't drink on an empty stomach or miss a meal so you can have a drink
If you drink beer or lager, choose ordinary ones preferably with an alcohol content of less than 5%. Low sugar 'diet' beers and lagers tend to be higher in alcohol and are best avoided. Bar staff who know the alcohol content of the drinks stocked in the bar should be able to advise you.
Use sugar-free or slimline mixers
Choose medium/dry varieties of wines or sherry If you're gonna drink beer, try to get some Stoney's or Straub...both are made with no sugar I would go with the light beer, rum is practically made from sugar so even when drinking it with diet coke the sugar content is still too high for diabetics. I am diabetic myself and this is the recommendation I got from both my doctor and my dietician.
