How would you cook sweet potato?!

Question:

How would you cook sweet potato?

bought some and now have no idea what to do with them!!!!

Answers: You cook them the same way you'd cook ordinary potatoes. they are very nice and some can be very sweet so I sometimes make the following

Sweet potato crisps
1 pint vegetable oil
? sweet potato
salt and freshly ground black pepper

Method
1. To make the crisps, heat the oil in a large pan or in a deep fat fryer. (CAUTION: Hot oil can be very dangerous. Do not leave unattended.)
2. Slice the sweet potato on a mandolin. They should be round, thin discs.
3. Once the oil is heated, fry the sweet potatoes.
4. Drain on kitchen paper.
5. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
6. Serve in a large bowl.

Sweet potato wedges
For the wedges
? sweet potato, cut into wedges
2 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp thyme leaves
salt and freshly ground black pepper
chervil, to garnish

Method
1. Preheat the oven to 200C/400F/Gas 6.
2. Toss the wedges with the oil and thyme then season well with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
3. Roast in the oven for 15-20 minutes, until lightly browned.
4. Serve in a warm bowl and garnish with chervil Source(s):
http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/databa... What's really good to do with them is slice them up and toss them in olive oil and salt. Then spread them on a pan and cook them in the oven at 400 degrees until they are crispy around the edges and cooked through. They are sooo delicious! And for a sweeter twist, drizzle on some honey after they have been cooked. It makes a great snack and side dish. just like regular potatoes, either bake them or microwave them You can bake it like a baked potato, when ready to eat, split it like a baked potato, put butter, brown sugar, and cinnamin on it. some ppl bake them like regular potato.....but i serve em up like candy yams......they sell these in cans at stores. drain water off of them, place them in a glassware dish, put butter, brown sugar on them.... you want them sweet to the taste or however you prefer.place in oven 325 degrees, at the end put marshmallows on them or not......now thats how u fix a sweet potato/candy yams!!!! I roast mine with black pepper olive oil and herbs for a different veg with roast dinner. Or I sling a some in when normal potatoes are half boiled for a delicious mash with real butter and black pepper. Also they are a good alternative to normal potatos when you need potato 'layers' in a dish. Enjoy - they are very good for you!!! I love to make sweet potato fries! Just cut them in strips with the skins on, put them on a cookie sheet that has been oiled, sprinkle a little sea salt on them and bake at 400 degrees for about 25 minutes.......Afterwards you can dip them in ketchup just like regular fries.........mmmmmmmmmmm!

Kim at: http://www.peaceful-organic-planet.com... My favorite way is very easy. Scrub and cut out bad spots, score skin, wrap in a paper towel, hold under water to soak towel, and microwave for 3-4 minutes depending on size. Then enjoy! Till done in oven and open like a Baked potato.
or
Cooking.com Steam or boil then mash with tons of butter & black pepper - delicious! All of the above or just peal, cook and mash with a bit of butter yummy. My Favourite is a Peruvian recipe:
4 sweet potatoes baked in their skins
4oz/100gr cream cheese
1 egg yolk
1 tsp chilli powder
3 spring onions chopped
corase ground salt & pepper to taste
butter
Scoop out the flesh and mash
Mix in all remaining ingredients except butter
Stuff back into skins
Dot with butter
Sprinkle with extra butter
Grill. I like to bake mine on a cookie sheet, then slice in half & scoop out the centers, saving the shells. In a bowl, mix together potatoes, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, raisins, pecans & melted butter. Stuff shells with potato mixture, then sprinkle top with a little additional brown sugar then place under broiler for just a couple of minutes.......Yummy & goes great with everything - especially pork dishes.... I would bake them, then skin them replace into baking dish with some brown sugar a splash of water and butter and rturn to the oven until the sugar, butter and water have mixed to make a glaze. . .
OR, slice them raw and deep fry for chips. i like them cooked just like a jacket potato I peel mine, cut them in chunks, season with salt & pepper, toss with olive oil & roast them in a 350 oven until fork tender. Oven bake them.. far more nicer than microwaved!!!! You tried sweat potato with chill over it?... yummy!!!! try it! if you like chilli that is lol i slice them up am deep fry them like potato chips sprinkel salt good eatings microwave on high for 5 minutes Make some Candy Yams out of them. A simple way is to slice them up, pour alot of sugar on them, cinammon, nutmeg, and a stick of butter and let it cook down. well what my mom used to do was put it in a steaming pot...and eat it lol so i guess steam it til it's nice and done well you can bake them because they are naturally sweet, or you can peel them and slice them into strips place them into a sauce pan add butter or your favorite margarine, a little sugar a pinch of cinnamon and let them simmer until tender most people boil then smash then add butter, brown sugar, regular sugar, and cinnamon. THe also taste great plain. If you want to save on calories add equal, cinnamon and spray with parkay. Google it dear Nuke it in the micro then eat it with butter and Cinnamon. I don't really know but where i live theres no sweet potato but Kumara is the same thing. Take off the outside stuff and either boil and mash or roast or make into fries. There will be lots of ways. I just had yesterday at the Taste of Chicago
Sweet Potatoe Salad, it was good. The restaurant it was from is www.delecee.com hi there your in for a treat just like potatoes you peel the sweet potatoes boil them the same as spuds in salted water or make chips you can roast them as well you have white and a yellow variety try a piece of yam as well they can all cook in same pan the yam takes 5 min more cooking time you can season the water with some spring onion and a sprig of thyme and a wee drop of olive oil enjoy lots of ways work well!! If you're boring boiling then mash them works but not too long a boil!!! use pepper in the mash - tastes lovely!!
in the oven is better - potato wedges, oil, salt and pepper (about 400F) 20-30 mins I think....
