Alternative stuffing for dorayaki?!

Question:

Alternative stuffing for dorayaki?

I'm making dorayaki (traditional Japanese "pancake sandwich") for the kids in my karate class. They probably will not like anko (red bean paste) that you would normally put into dorayaki. I was thinking about subbing it with chocolate. What do you think? What if a kid is allergic to chocolate?

Answers: there are dozens of things you could use instead of anko. try thinly sliced bananas sauteed in butter with brown sugar & cinnamon, or try ready made blueberry or cherry pie filling for something quick. you could even use quick pudding (almost any flavour would be good) and some optional whipped topping. i suggest you have a few of the traditional ones - slice them into pieces for the kids to try. that way they will experience the real thing and even if they don't like it they have at least tried something traditional. you may be surprised to find they do enjoy it. hold off telling them what the ingredients are until after they taste it - that way they won't have any preconceived prejudices about the taste. experience - i am half japanese you could try subs. the stuffing with cooked ground pork or chopped shrimps mix in with finely chopped spring onions/green onion and a little soy and sesame oil. Sort of like gyoza stuffing. Give it a try. the filling of dorayaki could be peanut butter / any kind of jam or honey + butter, just be creative.

Cheers!
