Brazilian food recipie - Puffed Potatos, or potato balls?!

Question:

Brazilian food recipie - Puffed Potatos, or potato balls?

20 years ago, I visited Petropolis for business. At a restaurant in the downtown area, I had a potato dish - I am trying to get the name of, or method to prepare. It was described to me as potatoes that where sliced into small disks - about the size of a quarter. Then frozen, and quickly deep fried. As a result, the potato cooked on the out side sealing the potato. The inside steamed and caused the sliced potato to expand almost the size of a ping pong ball. They where hollow - like a balloon not stuffed with anything. Any suggestions as to what it is, or what they are?

To be clear: They are hollow, and are not stuffed with anything and are not made from mashed potatoes - it is not a croquete, or anything like that.

Thanks

I remember some years ago in Puerto Rico, they served as a side dish with chicken something they called soufle potatoes, and it was something kind of close to what are you describing. they were sliced potatoes and fried, they were like blown up little pockets. very crispy an airy...
