Is there a such thing as American cuisine?!

Question:

Is there a such thing as American cuisine?

if so, what are the more popular dishes? i'd hate to say that the hamburger and hot dog are it.

Answers:

Well, there are some things indigenous to the America's, but in the US there isn't too much authentic cuisine. Chop suey was developed here, as were fortune cookies, but does that make them authentic American cuisine? Perhaps. Potato chips were developed here (by an Indian, by the way) but does a snack food like that register? Maybe. I dunno. Potatoes, tomatoes, turkeys, an assortment of berries, Smithfield hams -- all from here, but usually cooked European style. Corn, succotash, corn meal and its by products, chili, and I'm sure other things come from here and were developed here and register as American cuisine to various degrees.
Americans can claim to have popularized and perfected hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza, and fast food. That's American even in Germany and Italy.
