What do Italians think of Olive Garden? authentic? Or close to the real thing?
To clarify: in America it's hard for anything to be authentic. We have numerous corporate chains of Mexican and Italian food, as well as sushi and other dishes from far away lands. I laugh when I see Mexican cooks working in these places., Because #1 if your not taught by a prestigious cooking school, or taught from a real life Italian, then it's impossible to be authentic. Frozen, ready to make ingredients that are passed as food that might be believable. Unless it's a mom and pop shop with immigrants or family secrets passed down, then it's poor imitation. Anybody know what people coming over here think of these places that imitate your native dishes?

um, olive garden is not even close to authentic. olive garden is...gross compared to authentic italian.
my best friend's grandmother from italy almost slapped our waiter at olive garden for claiming the crappy sauce was authentic and would remind her of home. she took one bite of everything and proceeded to go home and make marinara and meatballs.
