Recommended dishes for eating Indian?!
Recommended dishes for eating Indian?
I have eaten so many international foods, but I'm ashamed to say I've never tried Indian. I like curry, but I want to try something new when I go. I really like sweeter-tasting foods. I'm not into anything with too much peanut-flavor (not sure if that's typical of Indian, it is with Thai). I'm fine eating spicy food. What are your recommendations?
Answers:
There are many things to choose from for first timers. Let me assure you though, that Indian food does not have too much of peanut-flavor.
If you know where you would like to eat, maybe you can check the menu online first. Or, just talk to the waiter and ask for suggestions as to what is really good at that place.
Based on the fact that you like "sweeter-tasting foods", I would highly recommend:
1) Appetizers -
Veggie Samosa: Flaky golden pastry, stuffed with mildly spiced potatoes and peas.
Paneer Pakora: Batter-fried, homemade cottage cheese fritters
Chicken Tikka: Boneless chicken chunks, grilled
2) Mulligatawny soup: lentil based soup
3) Vegetable Entrees -
Navratan Korma: Mixed vegetables, nuts and dried fruits in a mild almond and cream sauce.
Malai Kofta: Cottage cheese and vegetable dumplings cooked in a mild cream gravy
4) Non Vegetable Entrees-
Chicken Korma: boneless chicken cooked in a blend of yogurt nuts and spices in a creamy sauce
Chettinadu Pepper Lamb: Boneless pieces of lamb cooked with pepper & South Indian spices in Coconut gravy
5) Grains
Biryani: Basmati rice slow cooked with spices, nuts, saffron, and vegetables, chicken or lamb
Naan: Indian bread baked in tandoor
6) Raita: fresh yogurt whipped with shredded cucumber
7) Desserts
Pista, mango or lichee kulfi : traditional Indian ice-cream
8) Bevarages
Mango Lassi: mango flavored yogurt drink
Masala Tea: Indian tea spiked with spices and ginger
Anything from the above list should just be great!
Good Luck.
