What is dal rice?!

Question:

What is dal rice?

In a conversation someone mentioned "dal rice". What exactly is it? Is dal a particular kind of rice, or is it rice that has had something added to it?

Answers:

It's rice eaten with any type of dal (also spelled dhal, dahl, or daal, daar) is a preparation of pulses & lentils which have been stripped of their outer hulls and split. It also refers to the thick, spicy stew prepared therefrom, a mainstay of Indian & Pakistani cuisine. It is stated that dal is eaten in every Indian home at least once a day.

In addition, there are rice dishes that are made with dal (such as khichidi).
