It is indeed a bag made of muslin, and has many uses, apart from a bouquet garni holder, my mother used to fill it with oatmeal and put in her bath water, it used to make the bath creamy and very soft, and my mother's skin was lovely. My grandmother used to sour milk, seperate the curds, put them in a muslin bag and let them drip overnight. In the morning beat up the residue and hey presto - cream cheese.
