Anyone rolled their own sushi? If so, do you have any tips?!

Question:

Anyone rolled their own sushi? If so, do you have any tips?

I am looking to start learning how to roll my own sushi- since I eat it about 5 times a week. Can anyone recommend places, materials, references, etc to get me started? I appreciate any valuable information you can give me!!

Answers:

Rolling your own sushi is easier than you think. I reccomend purchasing a japanese cooking book if you're planning on making it frequently. Its also advantageous to purchase a rice cooker (they are fairly inexpensive maybe $20) because when the rice is cooked in one, along with some rice vinegar, it comes out perfectly sticky (required for rolling sushi.

You'll need:
Rice cooker $20
rice vinegar $3
sushi mat (made of bamboo) $5
seaweed or soy wraps $4
veggies/fresh fish of your choice

once you cook the rice, lay your bamboo sushi mat flat on the counter. I've seen some ametures use saranwrap over the matt but its not necessary (can keep it from getting messy)
then lay your seaweed or soy wrap over the bamboo matt and quickly spread your hot sticky rice over the seaweed. Next, lay your veggies and fish on the rice, closer to one edge (not in the middle). Then beginning with the smaller edge, begin to roll the sushi up, using the mat to roll over the surface ( and not into it).
